The United Way of Washington County is responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic by increasing the awareness of the United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline, the service of PA 2-1-1-Southwest provided in Washington County. This resource line historically has responded to crises and every day assists those residents in need to help meet their basic needs. As many of our community members now face challenges during this pandemic, challenges never experienced before, we encourage those seeking resources to please contact 2-1-1 for all non-emergency human service needs.
The resource navigators who respond to calls made from Washington County to 2-1-1 and texts to 898-211 will make appropriate referrals to resources available in our community. PA 2-1-1 can also provide updates to the community via outbound text messaging if one desires. In addition, PA 2-1-1- Southwest has established a protocol to track every individual who reaches out for COVID-19 concerns by zip-code. Sharing this important community resource line is vital to the role of the United Way of Washington County in our Washington County community. In addition to our 2-1-1 Helpline, we are currently funding 30 health and human services programs in Washington County through our Community Impact Fund. As we look to the future, the grant review process is currently underway as 52 community members make recommendations for funding of 38 programs for the next two years beginning July 2020. It is our hope that we can increase funding given the current situation that will surely impact many who benefit from these programs. The ongoing commitment of our Workplace Giving Campaign Partners and our individual donors make our efforts a reality in our community. As we annually recognize them at our Campaign Celebration Luncheon and when recognition of this year’s community award receipents take place, it was necessary to delay this event until June 18th. We are cautiously hopeful that this event will take place as well as other events scheduled, the Campaign Kickoff Golf Outing on August 7th and our LIVE UNITED Day of Service on September 25th.
